Aiping Wang, like someone straightening up after bowing or performing the ‘kowtow’, retains many traces of the army barracks and compounds he once inhabited; he is an upright figure, tall and straight in stature, succinctly attired in simply clothes, and his manner of conversation always reveals the qualities that his military training have forever imposed on his character – those of decisiveness and capability.
